VIPdesk

Here's a legitimate work from home company - VIPdesk. Featured in ABC News' "Help! How Do I Work From Home?" the company offers concierge and virtual customer service positions. These home based positions are often used by large companies to give their employees a break from running errands and create a better work-life balance.

The work performed by the concierge is travel booking, making restaurant reservations and recommendations, entertainment booking (e.g. purchasing tickets for concerts or other shows), occassional party planning, and the odd request here and there. The virtual customer service rep answers calls and e-mails, takes catalog orders, and may do product research and recommendations. Both of these positions require a training course, broadband internet access, and a business phone line.

VIPdesk is based in Alexandria, Virginia. The President and CEO of the company is Ms. Mary Naylor. The Better Business Bureau gives VIPdesk a satisfactory rating and has received no complaints in the past 36 months.

Bearing in mind that this is a legitimate work from home opportunity and that you will have to submit a resume and probably submit to a battery of other tests which may include drug tests, credit checks, and background checks, I still very much recommend this great work from home opportunity.

Although this is a legitimate business opportunity, it's not employment. One must have a registered business so you're not employed by the company but rather your services are contracted.

VIPDesk provides inbound customer calling for catalogs such as Eddie Bauer. It's a crueling environment to work under. One must meet sale quotes and metrics. VIPDesk doesn't tell you this going in. They only ask if you're willing to up sell and cross sell. Attendance, customer service handling as well as meeting sale quotes are calculated. If you have excellent attendance and provide excellent customer service it will not matter if you're not making the sales even in this very difficult economic environment. If you fall short on the sale end, VIPDesk will drop your services like yesterday's news.

VIPDesk offers training at their expense however, it's a semester's worth of training crammed into 2 or 3 weeks. After that, you must hit the ground running. This work isn't for the faint of heart. Also, if you need a bathroom break, it cuts into your available time so if you take too long to attend to your personal business, it will be held against your total attendance.

This is not a casual, like working at an office environment where you can get up to stretch your legs and chat at the "water cooler". This is a "chained to the desk" kind of job.

Further, VIPDesk will not offer a reference for the level of service provided. They do not provide references as your company is contracted as an entity to provide the service for VIPDesk.
